You’ve already heard of Dario, Claudio and Asia. Now it’s time to meet Simay!

David Black interviews the extraordinary entertainer — Simay Argento

I first met Simay on the set of the horror movie, Cult Girls. The first thing that jumped out at me was her name because I am a big Dario Argento fan. Sure enough, Simay is related to Dario, Claudio and Asia, but Simay doesn’t need to trade on her family name! Nope, she has studied and worked hard at her craft and can easily stand on her own two feet.

DB — Hi Simay. Thanks for taking the time to chat to me today. It’s been so busy when we’ve caught up that the only thing I can remember about your training is that you studied dancing. Can you give us an overview of your training?

SA — Hi David you’re so welcome, so lovely to chat with you again. Yes of course, so I attended APO Arts Academy which also is Dance World Studios. I have studied and completed 2 year course in Musical Theatre which I absolutely loved. I have also attended many different jazz schools as a young child, as well as I have performed with many different artists and singers in various different styles/genres other than jazz.

DB — Wow! Now, after all that training, can you go over what you’ve done as an actress?

SA –As an actress I have worked on a quite few films, and also in tv series productions such as (Neighbours, Whitmore, Mad As Hell, Ronny Chieng) I have worked on a few short films, as well as international films. Most of these films will be released this year and will also have film premier nights. I have also attended 2 years of acting at Melbourne Actors Lab, which is one of the best schools, I could ever recommended to anyone who is passionate and driven.

DB — So Simay, you do dancing, modelling and acting. Has each of these disciplines helped deepen your appreciation of the others? If so, how have they worked together to create something unique?

SA –Indeed it has, as I’m versatile with my background it can become hard, and stressful at times. Then when I see other people who I admire and respect, who are similar like myself it then really makes me appreciate and want to go further. With my work when I perform whether it may be dance, modelling or acting I always use all three combinations in each genre. So for example when you’re a dancer, and your performing you will see a lot of, facial expressions and acting. When you’re a model and you’re doing a concept photoshoot you go into character, and again using body language and facial expressions along with different make up, costumes, it all comes together. So really when you combine all 3 it all blends in, in some way or another. For me it’s more theatrical which is what I love and what I am most based in and recognized for.

DB — I know this is going to be a hard one to answer Simay, because you’ve done quite a bit, but what is your favourite memory from being on a set?

SA — Wow I have so many to be honest, but I would have to say Cult Girls. I worked 3 days on set for this film shoot, and not only did I work in the film among others but I also appear in Jane Badler’s Music Video Clip prior to the film. We spent a whole day in the forest shooting the video clip, and I just remember watching and seeing everyone in action and looking incredible. Talking and working with Jane Badler has been a journey I have learnt so much from her, as she’s an incredible actress, woman and person. This would have to one of my most favourite memories, working on set with Cult Girls cast and crew.

DB — You’ve done quite a lot Simay, and there is a bit of variety there too. Is there a particular direction that you would like to steer your career in?

SA –Yes I am actually planning to go to America sometime next year, as I have a lot of networking friends and colleague’s over there and also to sight see and to tour certain cities. I also have been thinking of taking up script writing and directing on the side, as I feel I would be good at these 2 added along with my acting.
