Cyclone Shellee will blow you away!
David Black interviews the inexhaustible Shellee King
When Shellee contacted me and said she was like the “energiser bunny with unlimited energy,” she wasn’t joking! The amount that this actress has achieved in the space of just one year proves that she really is the king!
DB — Hi Shellee. Thanks for taking the time to chat to me today. In the last 12 months, you seem to have done everything from a TV series to feature films to infomercials to music videos…. the list is exhaustive!!! Can you please give me a bit of a run down on it all?
SK — Hi David, sure, and thanks for taking the time to interview me today.
When you are passionate about something, things just seem to flow. I decided less than a year ago it was time to follow my passion, and what has unfolded in such a short time has blown me away too. Lol.
I did my research, found myself a great agent, “walked the plank” so to speak and just jumped in. Everything my agent threw at me I said “YES” to as well as completing extra courses in my down time and sourcing additional work off my own back. I’ve done TV Series, Mini Series, Feature Films, Stan and Fox episodes, a music video, online web ads and testimonials, infomercials, TV Commercial and a stills photo shoot for a upcoming campaign. The busier I am, the happier I am, and the more that’s thrown at me the more I thrive. I love a good challenge.
DB — Which of these has been your favourite project to work on so far?
SK –Hmm, that’s a tough call David. Every job is so individual and so unique. I loved doing “Dark Waters”, a Neo-Noir Thriller filmed around Newcastle and The Hunter Valley. I also had a ball on set with James Stewart Keene’s music video clip “Charm Offensive”. I made some incredible friends that day that I continue to see on different sets and shoot locations.
DB — You are also working as an assistant producer for Harmless Productions. Has being on the other side of the camera helped with your acting?
SK — Absolutely. I was incredibly fortunate to be given the most amazing opportunity by Trish Haywood, owner of Harmless Productions. After pestering her to get the job as a runner, she happily said yes (and I think that was partly just to get some peace.) Trish took me on as a runner to help with a pilot show for TV that she was in the process of putting together. Before I knew it, my job title had changed to Assistant Producer. Trish has taught me so much about the industry and I think being behind the camera as part of the crew, has definitely helped me understand and appreciate more about being in front of the camera.
DB — Is there any particular type of role you favour doing?
SK — I enjoy everything I’m involved in. When I’m at work I have a permanent smile on my face, which I think is rare in the workplace these days. I would actually love to take on a serious role in a drama of some type (Dr, Lawyer, Investigator) etc.
DB — Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time with your acting?
SK — In 5yrs time I WILL be working full time in this incredible industry… I’ll be working my butt off to get there (can I say butt?) Lol. This is my goal and I won’t stop till I get there, and I’m going to enjoy every hard step of the way. I’d love to be contracted for something I can really sink my teeth into, so in saying that, I’ll let you know when I sign that contract.
DB — Wow! Thanks for coming along today Shellee. Do you have any links where we can follow your career?
